H5N1 Avian (Bird) Flu Information

Dr. Leslie Dauphin, an Atlanta virologist and author of the Germ Handbook, has been expressing her concerns about the threat of the H5N1 Avian Influenza virus soon acquiring the mutations that would allow it to spread among people as easily as it has been spreading among birds.  She has noted that as the Bird Flu spreads to more countries, it will have many more opportunities to pick up what it needs to start a deadly pandemic.

The attendees of the 18th Go Red Health Fair  held Saturday (12/09/06) at the new South Cobb Regional Library in Mableton learned both general and specific information about Flu viruses and how to access reliable on-line resources for timely information about the Bird Flu.  They also learned about specific symptoms to look for once suspected human cases occur in the United States and how to survive being infected by the highly pathogenic H5N1 Avian Flu virus.

Dr. Dauphin has been invited as a featured speaker for the 19th Go Red Health Fair to be held on January 20th, 2007 at the new South Cobb Regional Library. She has recently written an important article about HIV/AIDS that is of national interest.

"The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death." -- King Solomon (Proverbs 13:14)
